Barcelona have been buoyed by a significant financial boost after Gavi suffered a serious injury with Spain last season.

After emerging as one of the most highly-touted graduates from La Masia in recent years, the 20-year-old midfielder quickly became a key figure for both club and country.

However, whilst representing Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifying clash against Georgia last year, he suffered a ACL injury that saw him spend the remainder on the campaign on the sidelines.

Barcelona would ultimately finish second in LaLiga, ten points behind Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid and were knocked out of the Champions League by PSG at the quarter-final stage.

While Gavi's injury had a significant impact for his club, Barca will receive a significant compensation payout from FIFA for the time he was absent.

Regulations from the governing body allow for compensation of more than £16,000-a-day can be paid to clubs if a player suffers a long-term injury while on international duty.

With Gavi expectly to make his return to competition in the coming weeks, the final payout from FIFA could reach £5.8million according to Mundo Deportivo.

While the payout will no doubt be welcomed by Barca chiefs, a recent court judgement will see them miss out previously scheduled payments.

The club were set to bank £410,000 in add-ons relating to Malcom joining Zenit Saint Petersburg for a Russian record fee in 2019.

Zenit were set to originally scheduled each time they qualified for Europe, however a verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport has ruled they are not required to due to the UEFA ban on Russian teams.

What I can confirm is that Real Madrid are scouring the market for options at centre-back. I am told is that they are weighing up potentially making a signing in January, but they are yet to make the definitive call on that. There are various options though, and what is certain is that by the end of next summer, Real Madrid will have signed a central defender, that is an objective that they have marked out.

I can’t say yet whether it will be just one or not, but there will be a signing. Regarding Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, who is out of contract next summer. As has been reported in both Spain and Germany, Real Madrid are monitoring him, although nothing has been decided. He has certainly caught the attention of the big clubs.

Various rumours have come out about a potential return to Turkiye for Arda Guler, and perhaps a loan deal back to his old club Fenerbahce, where he would be a starter. They came about in the summer, and have resurfaced now, but nothing has changed, and he has absolutely no intention of leaving Real Madrid.

Ever since May, when Guler had begun to play with some regularity, earning the trust of the squad and of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid decided that he would not be going anywhere. The idea remains the same with Guler, and I have no confirmation that Fenerbahce have any chance of bringing back Guler, as both the player and the club want to continue.

Honestly what I think is that Aurelien Tchouameni is only thinking about Real Madrid, and has nothing else on his mind at the moment, he’s not thinking about leaving. Perhaps the rumours about Liverpool are emerging because they tried to sign him before he went to Real Madrid, and they were very interested in him, but I don’t see any foundation in these rumours.

In addition, Tchouameni is completely integrated in the world of Real Madrid, and capable of playing various different roles. I have not received any information that Los Blancos would allow him to leave. Tchouameni is a key part of the Real Madrid project, they are happy with him, and Carlo Ancelotti sees him as key too. During a season there are always ups and downs, but the criticism he has received from local press does not add up to Real Madrid wanting to sell him.
