As the 2024 elections approach, there are growing concerns from sections of the public and political stakeholders that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may be planning to rig the upcoming elections. Here are three solid pieces of evidence that suggest the NPP is preparing to manipulate the electoral process to maintain power.

1. Refusal to Support Forensic Audit of the Voter' s Register.
One of the most glaring signs pointing towards potential election rigging is the NPP' s refusal to support calls for a forensic audit of the Voter' s Register, led by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Despite persistent calls from opposition parties and civil society groups, the Electoral Commission (EC) has rejected demands for an independent audit of the Provisional Voter' s Register before the elections.
2. Attempts to Silence Protesters and Demonstrators.
The NPP government' s response to dissent and public outcry has been another cause for concern. In recent months, the government has taken an increasingly authoritarian approach to silence protesters and demonstrators demanding accountability. The use of the police to arrest and brutalize peaceful demonstrators has become a common tactic to deter the public from voicing their grievances. Many believe that this is a move to eliminate dissent and prevent scrutiny of the electoral process, making it easier for the ruling party to manipulate the outcome.

3. Unconcerned about Labour Agitations
Another significant sign that points to potential election rigging is the NPP government' s indifference to ongoing labor agitations. In an election year, it is only logical for a government that seeks to retain power to address the concerns of key sectors, including nurses, teachers, mortuary workers, and other health professionals. However, the NPP has shown little to no concern for these workers, who are increasingly going on strike due to unmet demands.
With these pieces of evidence pointing towards a potential rigging strategy, the NPP' s actions have raised red flags about the integrity of the upcoming elections.
