Man Utd will listen to offers for first-team player as Erik ten Hag deems him 'surplus to requirements'

According to a recent report, Manchester United will consider bids for one of their first-team regulars starting at £10 million this season.
Erik ten Hag, who is under increasing pressure after a run of poor results, and United have had a disappointing start to the 2024–25 season.
In fact, following the Reds' crushing 3-0 loss to Tottenham at the end of the previous month, it appeared as though Ten Hag would be let go.

But a six-hour board meeting with United's decision-makers concluded on Tuesday with Ten Hag still in position as manager.

For the time being, his status as head coach is safe, with the Dutchman set to be in the dugout when Brentford visit Old Trafford on Saturday, 19 October.

Whether he will remain in charge for the foreseeable future remains uncertain, although a report from The Starsuggests he has plans to get rid of former club captain Harry Maguire.

Maguire, who joined from Leicester in 2019 for a record-breaking fee of £80 million, was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer of 2023.

West Ham were widely reported to be interested but a transfer failed to materialise as he fell down the pecking order under Ten Hag.

With injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro, Maguire has featured regularly this season alongside either Matthijs de Ligt or Jonny Evans but it looks like his days at United could be numbered.

In fact, the club have significantly reduced their demands from £30 million to £10 million, with Ten Hag deeming the player 'surplus to requirements' as he enters the final nine months of his £200,000-a-week deal.

United will attempt to find a buyer for Maguire in the January transfer window and if that fails, they will trigger the one-year extension in his contract to try again next summer.

Maguire will be out for several weeks after he limped off during their recent Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Taking to Instagram this week, he wrote: “Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I'll come back stronger."
