A tragic accident occurred in East Legon, Accra, on Saturday, October 12, 2024, resulting in the death of two young women. The incident involved a head-on collision between an Acura and a Jaguar. After the crash, one of the vehicles struck a wooden electric pole, causing it to fall, which triggered a catastrophic fire. The two women, who were trapped inside the Acura, were tragically burned beyond recognition.
Three other individuals, including the drivers of both vehicles, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. The fire quickly engulfed both vehicles, leaving no escape for the two victims in the Acura. Eyewitnesses described seeing thick black smoke and a rapidly intensifying blaze, while emergency services struggled to control the situation
The incident has left many in shock, highlighting the dangers of vehicular accidents and the importance of road safety.
Assistant Division Officer Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service confirmed in an interview with Adom FM that over-speeding was a significant factor in the deadly accident in East Legon, Accra. He detailed that the collision between the Acura and Jaguar vehicles led to a devastating fire after one of the cars struck an electric pole, causing it to fall and ignite. Firefighters at the scene recovered one body and were working to extricate the second, which remained trapped in the wreckage.
Three other individuals, including the drivers of both vehicles, sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical care, fighting for their lives. Emergency responders were challenged by the intensity of the blaze, which rapidly engulfed both vehicles before they could fully intervene
