Samira Bawumia, wife of Vice President and Presidential Candidate for the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, could not hold her joy and excitement as queen mothers in the Bekwai traditional council, explicitly declared support for her and the Vice-President.
According to the traditional leaders, the humility, intellect and vision of the Vice President, Dr Bawumia should not be replaced with what will return the country to the era of economic slavery.
They shared in the vision of the Vice President and that, in their view, it is only proper to support a mind that has the potential of positively changing the fortunes of the country.
Clad in their rich Kente cloth to welcome the second lady, the queen mothers, in their hundreds, were blant in their assessments of Samira’s husband.
That he has the kind of vision Ghana needs, and seem to know exactly what he wants to achieve for the country.
According to them, the NPP has an enviable history of prioritising the lives of the vulnerable in society, adding that, all major social interventions in the country, were introduced by them.
The Queen mother of Bekwai Traditional council, Nana Adwoa Pinaman III, speaking on behalf of the Queen mothers, said the country is at a cross road and, the people must decide whether to move into an era of possibilities or return the country to the days of despair and hopelessness.
She cited Free Maternal Health care, LEAP, School feeding programme, National Health Insurance Scheme, Free SHS education, among others, as key policies that were introduced by Former President Kuffuor and sitting President Akufo-Addo.
They noted that, as mothers, they will keep supporting governments which have shown commitment towards eradicating poverty through social intervention programmes.
The Queen mothers mentioned the NPP’s flagship free SHS programme, especially, as one key intervention that has drastically reduced the economic burdens on parents.
The Second Lady, in expressing her appreciation to the Queen mothers for their huge turnout, encouraged them to continue to work for the sustenance of peace in Ghana.
Samira Bawumia’s meeting with the various queen mothers of the Bekwai traditional council, forms part of her 8 day tour to the Ashanti Region.
She is on the tour with the Member of Parliament for Suame constituency, Osei- Mensah Bonsu, Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Regional women’s organiser, Nana Ama Ampomah, Beatrice Owusu, Regional Campaign Team Member, Lawyer Kwame Adom Appiah, Ashanti Regional Secretary and others.
