Ghana Education Service Releases 2024 Results and Placements, Addresses Key Concerns

In a significant announcement made by the Ghana Education Service (GES) on October 10th, 2024, students, parents, and the general public were informed about the release of the 2024 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) results for Senior High Schools. This much-anticipated development comes after months of rigorous examination processes overseen by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Out of the total 569,095 results received from WAEC, a considerable 451,797 candidates were successfully placed into various senior high schools across the country. However, in the announcement, GES noted that some students encountered challenges due to errors in the selection process. These errors arose from mistakes made during the selection procedure, which resulted in the failure of certain students to identify their placement status.

**Examination Malpractices and Withheld Results**

A notable point in the press release was the issue of examination malpractices. GES recorded a significant number of examination malpractice cases during the marking process, which unfortunately led to the withholding of 10,898 examination papers. The reasons behind the withholding of these papers are still under investigation, but the announcement signals the importance of maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s examination system. Such malpractices continue to be a major concern for the GES and WAEC, affecting both the credibility of the examination process and the future of affected students.

The GES urged students and parents whose results were affected to remain calm and await further communication, as the service works on resolving any issues that may have resulted from the ongoing investigations.

**Steps for Confirmation and Self-Placement**

As the results and placements draw near, the GES is encouraging students to take the necessary steps to ensure a smooth placement process. Students are urged to:

1. Confirm their result status.

2. Complete the Self-Placement process, which allows them to select from available schools if they have not been automatically placed in any institution.

3. Take all necessary actions before the deadline to secure a spot in a senior high school.

The GES has provided clear guidelines for students whose initial placement did not match any of their selected schools. The Self-Placement Module has been created to ensure that such students can still enroll in a school of their preference. From the Self-Placement Portal, students can choose a region, school, residential preference, and programme of choice. The portal also allows flexibility, as students can change their choices as many times as needed before completing the final placement.

In case of any difficulties, the GES encourages parents and students to utilize the available communication channels for inquiries. A special WhatsApp line (053 451 7153) has been set up to handle such queries. The service has stressed that schools chosen through the Self-Placement Portal will remain flexible until a student successfully enrolls.

**Addressing the Challenges and Offering Support**

This year’s placement process has been marked by some challenges, notably the errors in student selection and the high number of withheld results due to malpractice. However, GES remains committed to ensuring that every eligible student secures admission to a senior high school. The head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, reassured students and their families that GES is working around the clock to ensure that the process concludes without any further complications.

To facilitate a smooth process, GES is urging students and parents to act promptly and follow all necessary guidelines. Additionally, the service is counting on the cooperation of all stakeholders—students, teachers, heads of basic schools, and directors of education—to ensure that every student receives the necessary support.

In the coming weeks, as the process unfolds, GES will be issuing updates to inform the public on the progress of placements, as well as to provide assistance for those experiencing difficulties with the system. The focus is on ensuring a seamless transition from junior high school to senior high school for thousands of Ghanaian students. GES emphasized that there is still ample time for students to confirm placements and avoid any last-minute complications.

The message was clear: candidates, parents, and stakeholders must stay informed, take advantage of the time remaining, and ensure that all necessary steps are taken before the deadlines. With ongoing challenges such as examination malpractice and selection errors, GES is committed to ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the placement process.

**Conclusion**

As the release of results and placements brings relief and anticipation for thousands of students across the nation, the GES is working diligently to address the challenges that have arisen. With strong support from parents, teachers, and educational authorities, the service aims to provide a smooth and fair placement process for every eligible student. The GES concluded its press release by wishing all candidates success and good luck as they transition to the next phase of their educational journey.

For any additional questions or clarifications, students and parents are encouraged to reach out to the GES through the designated WhatsApp number or visit their local education office. The GES remains committed to resolving any outstanding issues and ensuring that the 2024 CSSPS process concludes successfully.
