Ghana Armed Forces Vows to Enforce Law on Unapproved Military Clothing

Ghana Armed Forces Warns Against Illegal Use of Military Uniforms And Threaten Arrests.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a strong warning against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accessories during public demonstrations and by individuals providing security for public figures. In a statement released on Monday, October 14, GAF raised concerns over the growing trend of people illegally wearing military-style attire, a practice that has persisted despite previous warnings.

According to the GAF, some individuals have been seen wearing these uniforms not only during protests but also around illegal mining sites, commonly referred to as "galamsey" areas. The military highlighted the seriousness of these actions, pointing out that unauthorized use of military clothing poses significant security risks. It warned that such practices could tarnish the reputation of the armed forces and create confusion in public spaces, making it difficult for citizens to distinguish between legitimate military personnel and imposters.

The GAF emphasized that the misuse of military-pattern uniforms undermines public safety, especially as some political activists and private security personnel have adopted the trend. "Despite our ongoing education efforts and previous warnings, the unauthorized use of military attire continues to rise," the statement noted. This issue is particularly concerning given the potential for these illegal acts to escalate tensions, especially with the 2024 general elections approaching.

To address the situation, GAF announced its intention to take decisive action against offenders. It stated that individuals found guilty of violating the regulations would be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The military also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving unauthorized use of military uniforms or accessories.

“Considering the security risks associated with these illegal practices, GAF will act swiftly by arresting offenders and ensuring they face the full rigour of the law,” the statement read. The military urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and report any violations to help safeguard the nation’s security.

In addition to issuing the warning, the Ghana Armed Forces reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting the country’s territorial integrity. It stressed the importance of collaboration between the military, law enforcement agencies, and the general public, especially in the run-up to the 2024 elections. GAF reiterated that collective efforts are necessary to uphold peace and stability during this critical period, encouraging all citizens to play their part in ensuring a secure environment.

The statement concluded with a call for increased public awareness and responsibility, underscoring the need to prevent any further misuse of military-style clothing and safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s armed forces.
