The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially introduced a new digital voter verification platform as part of its efforts to ensure a credible voter roll for the upcoming 2024 General Elections. Beginning today, Tuesday, October 15, 2024, registered voters across the country are invited to check their details on the provisional voters' register through an online platform. This initiative is aimed at enhancing transparency and providing an easy and accessible method for voters to confirm their registration details ahead of the elections.
This digital exhibition process will remain active until Saturday, October 19, 2024. During this period, voters are encouraged to take advantage of the platform to ensure their information is accurate. The verification process has been made simple and convenient for all eligible voters. One of the key methods to access the platform is by dialing the free shortcode *71151#. Alternatively, voters can visit the official website of the EC, where they will be prompted to enter their 10-digit Voter Identification (ID) number. This straightforward system allows voters to check their registration status from the comfort of their homes or any other location with internet or mobile network access.
The Electoral Commission has also outlined the procedure for addressing any discrepancies that may arise during this verification exercise. If voters find any errors or inconsistencies in their details, they are encouraged to promptly report them to the District Office where they initially registered. However, it is crucial to note that any corrections can only be made during the exhibition period, which concludes on October 19. After this date, while voters will still be able to access the platform to view their information, there will no longer be an option to make corrections or adjustments to the data. This deadline emphasizes the importance of immediate action if any issues are identified during the verification process.
The EC has stressed that this digital voter verification initiative is part of a broader effort to maintain an accurate and clean voter roll. By ensuring that all details on the voters' register are correct, the Commission aims to minimize potential issues on election day, such as missing names or incorrect data that could prevent eligible voters from exercising their right to vote. This exercise is a critical step in the EC's preparation for compiling the final voter register, which will be used for the 2024 General Elections.
The introduction of a digital verification platform reflects the EC's commitment to adopting modern technologies to streamline the electoral process and enhance transparency. The use of both mobile and web-based platforms makes it easier for voters to confirm their information, particularly for those who may not have the time or ability to visit their local district offices in person. This move is expected to improve voter engagement and participation in the electoral process by offering a user-friendly and accessible solution.
The Electoral Commission's launch of a digital voter verification system marks a significant step towards ensuring a smooth and credible election in 2024. Voters are urged to take advantage of the free and accessible verification tools provided by the EC, whether through the mobile shortcode *71151# or the Commission's official website, to confirm their registration details before the exhibition period ends on October 19, 2024. The success of this exercise will contribute to the accuracy of the final voter roll and ensure that eligible citizens are able to cast their votes without complications on election day.
