Election 2024: Stop spreading fake news – EC.
Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has issued a strong warning against the spread of misinformation and disinformation as Ghana moves closer to the 2024 general elections.
Speaking after a significant Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 15, she underscored the importance of ensuring that the public receives accurate and truthful information regarding the EC's role in the electoral process.

Jean Mensa made it clear that the commission does not have the authority to decide the outcome of an election or make any candidate president.
"The EC can never make anybody president and I think that we all know this around this table. Therefore, we should not peddle misinformation, fake news and disinformation and give innocent citizens who do not know the process that the electoral commission can make somebody a president," she stated.
I'm unbothered by petition to declare my seat vacant – Amenfi Central MP.
The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, has expressed indifference toward the petition filed by the Minority caucus seeking to declare his seat vacant.

Kwakye-Ackah, who has chosen to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, stated that his decision was a result of what he views as unfair treatment by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He cited the party's endorsement of his opponent as the NDC's parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central as a major factor in his departure from the party.
In an interview with Citi News in Parliament on Tuesday, October 15, Kwakye-Ackah addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his seat, making it clear that he remains unconcerned about the petition and is focused on his independent candidacy moving forward.
Fairly balance your parliamentary duties and campaign activities – Bagbin to MPs.
As the 2024 general election draws nearer, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has cautioned Members of Parliament, urging them to carefully balance their legislative duties with their campaign responsibilities.
In his address to Parliament during the 5th meeting of the Fourth session on Tuesday, October 15, Bagbin emphasised that while electoral campaigns are crucial, MPs must not allow their focus on these activities to overshadow their core mandate as legislators, particularly in the face of pressing national issues that demand urgent attention.
In his speech, Bagbin acknowledged the high demands that come with the campaign season, recognising the intense focus, time, and energy that MPs must dedicate to securing or retaining their seats in the upcoming elections.
Bagbin was unequivocal in his assertion that the legislative agenda before Parliament is of equal, if not greater, importance in the weeks leading up to the election.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that he has taken significant political risks and put his presidency on the line in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. His commitment to combat this issue has faced severe criticism since he first pledged action in 2017.
During his 'Thank You Tour' in the Northeast Region on Tuesday, October 15, President Akufo-Addo emphasized his dedication to eradicating galamsey, asserting that he is bound by his word and ready to face any consequences that arise from it.
He expressed concern over the poor performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections within mining areas, attributing this decline to propaganda spread by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
