Another smash from the PlayStation is coming to the PC. One of the most anticipated PS5 exclusives, Spider-Man 2, will be available on PC on January 30th, according to Sony. It will be accessible through the Epic Game Store and Steam.
According to Mike Fitzgerald, Core Technology Director at developer Insomniac, the PC port will come with the base game and all of its later DLC, such as New Game Plus mode and additional spider suits, in addition to PC-specific features like "keyboard and mouse controls, ultra widescreen support, and numerous graphical options." Included in it will be "enhanced ray-tracing options."
Sony also disclosed that "we have no additional story content planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2" on either platform as part of the announcement.
Nixxes, which previously worked on the PC versions of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and the original Spider-Man and its Miles Morales sequel, is handling the port. The company is also responsible for the remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, which will be released on October 31st.
Spider-Man 2 is only the most recent in Sony's massive PC push, which also includes a PC overlay that debuted in June along with the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima. With the PC version of Spider-Man 2 released less than two years after its initial release, it is also the fastest major PS5 game to be transferred to date.
In recent years, Sony has increasingly prioritized bringing its exclusive PlayStation titles to PC, and Spider-Man 2 is the latest in this trend. This move is part of Sony’s broader strategy to expand its reach beyond the console market and cater to the growing PC gaming audience. By making top-tier titles like Spider-Man 2 available on multiple platforms, Sony is tapping into a larger global market, offering players who may not own a PlayStation the chance to experience these beloved games. This also provides the added advantage of longer lifespans for its games, allowing them to reach new audiences long after their initial console release.
The decision to port Spider-Man 2 to PC so soon after its original release also speaks to the increased demand for cross-platform gaming experiences. The inclusion of features like enhanced ray-tracing and ultra widescreen support demonstrates Sony's commitment to ensuring that the PC versions of its games not only match but exceed the performance of their console counterparts in certain areas. For players who prioritize high-end graphics and performance, these additional features are a major selling point.
Ultimately, as Sony continues to push into the PC space, it's clear that the future of gaming is becoming more interconnected, with exclusivity lines slowly blurring between platforms.
