Leaked U.S. Intelligence Documents Allegedly Reveal Israel's Plans for Iran Strike
Leaked documents appearing on social media suggest the U.S. gathered intelligence on Israel’s military preparations for a potential strike against Iran. If authentic, this leak could mark a significant breach of U.S. intelligence.
U.S. officials have declined to comment on the possible exposure of this sensitive information. ABC News has been unable to independently verify the authenticity of the documents, which detail the types and quantities of munitions Israel may be preparing to use in response to a missile attack from Iran in late September. The assault reportedly involved around 200 ballistic missiles aimed at Israel.
The leaked materials bear markings suggesting they originated from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), which specializes in intelligence gathered through satellite and aerial imagery. ABC News has refrained from publishing or quoting directly from the documents.
A senior U.S. defense official told ABC News, “We are looking into these reports.” However, the Department of Defense, FBI, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence all declined to comment.
This incident draws comparisons to a significant leak in 2023, when classified documents were disseminated on the social platform Discord. Jack Teixeira, a member of the U.S. Air National Guard, later pleaded guilty to charges related to that breach.
National security expert Mick Mulroy, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense, called the potential leak "a serious breach." Mulroy warned that such an incident could compromise the safety of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) personnel and strain U.S.-Israel cooperation. "Trust is essential in this relationship, and depending on how this leak occurred, that trust could be damaged," he added.
