Correspondence from Michael Oberteye, Eastern Region – Somanya, a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana, was struck by tragedy on Sunday, October 20, 2024, when a 40-year-old man, identified as Teye Emmanuel, was stabbed to death in a gruesome attack. The incident, which took place near the Akutunya lorry park, has left the community in shock as police continue investigations into the matter.
According to eyewitness accounts, Teye Emmanuel was involved in an argument with two others in the vicinity when an individual, known as Dodzi, intervened. Armed with a knife, Dodzi stabbed the victim twice—first in the head and then in the chest—leaving Teye bleeding profusely on the ground. Bystanders rushed the victim to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, but efforts to save his life were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police were notified of the incident by the victim's brother, Djornorbuah, who reported that Dodzi had stabbed Teye. Officers from the Somanya Police Department responded promptly, arriving at the scene to investigate. After gathering initial evidence, they transported the victim to the hospital, where his body was deposited in the morgue pending further investigation.
Preliminary police reports indicate that Dodzi, believed to suffer from mental health issues, fled the scene immediately after the attack. Law enforcement is currently conducting a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.
In a related development, on the morning of Monday, October 21, 2024, police were alerted to the presence of an injured man lying in a gutter in Brigade, a nearby suburb of Somanya. The man, who had sustained multiple injuries from an alleged lynching attempt, was rescued and transported to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, where he is currently under police guard. Authorities suspect that this individual could be Dodzi, the same man involved in the fatal stabbing of Teye Emmanuel, although this has not yet been confirmed.
The Somanya Police have stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the injured man and to bring the perpetrator of Sunday’s crime to justice. The community remains tense as residents await further updates on the case.
