BAWUMIA COMMISSIONS PHASE II OF TSATSADU HYDRO POWER PLANT, FULFILLS PROMISE TO HOHOE EP SHS

Hohoe, Ghana – In one major move that would see an increase in the renewable energy capacity of the country, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, commissioned the Phase II of the Tsatsadu Hydro Power Plant on Friday. This no doubt will mark a new turning point for this region and is part of the firm resolution of the government to increase access and sustainability in the area of energy in Ghana.


The atmosphere was one of happiness and excitement over the new phase of the hydro power project at the commissioning ceremony in Hohoe, attended by local dignitaries, government officials, and residents. In his address, Dr Bawumia stressed that renewable energy is one of the development agendas of Ghana, adding that the project was not only a source of power but also a catalyst for economic growth in the Volta Region.


Phase II of the Tsatsadu Hydro Power Plant is projected to contribute another 30 megawatts to the community, remarkably transforming energy status in this area. The Vice President indicated that this phase perfectly fits into the government's dream of exploiting abundant water resources of Ghana into renewable energy production to reduce dependence on fossil fuel.


In his speech, Dr. Bawumia indicated that the government was determined to see through the promises made at Hohoe, more so the Hohoe EP Senior High School. The commissioning of the hydro plant thus also pledges the availability of reliable electricity to the school and environs, necessary for the purpose of educational development and a general good livelihood.


Local leaders were thankful for the government's move, adding that it would add to educational facilities and offer a better deal to local business people. It is also expected that the project will bring in additional employment opportunities, further strengthening the local economy.


The Tsatsadu Hydro Power Plant forms part of the bigger initiative on diversification of Ghana's energy mix, enshrining renewables onto the mix. In so far as the government continues to push for increased generation, the successful commissioning of Phase II stands out as the best milestone in the process of giving Ghana a sustainable and reliable energy future.
