Flick Unfazed by Barcelona’s Poor Record Against Bayern Munich Ahead of Champions League Showdown

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick remains calm and confident despite the club’s poor recent record against Bayern Munich, as he prepares his side for their Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday. The German giants have been a constant source of frustration for Barcelona, having beaten them in each of their last six encounters, with the Catalans failing to score in their last four matches. Most notably, Flick himself was at the helm for Bayern when they handed Barcelona an 8-2 thrashing in the 2020 Champions League quarterfinals.

However, Flick is not dwelling on the past. Speaking to reporters ahead of the match, he emphasized that Barcelona’s recent struggles against Bayern have no bearing on the present. "The past doesn't matter, the present is what's important," Flick said, showing his intent to focus on the here and now. He acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge but expressed optimism about Barcelona’s chances, stating, "Of course we want to try and beat Bayern Munich."

Flick, who won an astonishing six titles with Bayern in 2020, has already had a transformative effect on Barcelona since taking over this summer. The team currently sits at the top of La Liga, and Flick has been quick to praise the city and the club’s passionate fanbase. His first few months in charge have seen Barcelona regain their form, but this week poses a major test for the Blaugrana, as they face Bayern in the Champions League and archrivals Real Madrid in a crucial La Liga match on Saturday.

Reflecting on his time with Bayern, Flick expressed fondness for the memories he created but reiterated that his focus is on his new chapter with Barcelona. "Bayern are a team in good form with a lot of confidence, they're a top, top team with great players," Flick admitted. He welcomed the opportunity to test Barcelona against one of Europe’s elite teams, adding, "It's going to be great."

Flick refused to be drawn into discussions about the future, including speculation about Barcelona potentially playing a match against Atletico Madrid in Miami in December. "I don't know how these things get decided," he said, preferring to keep his attention firmly on the immediate task at hand: facing Bayern Munich.

With Barcelona aiming to break their recent losing streak against the German champions and reestablish themselves as a force in Europe, Flick’s calm demeanor and focus on the present could prove crucial in overcoming the psychological barrier Bayern have posed in recent years.
