He came in as an emergency signing after the club had completed the transfer of Bernard Somuah to Spanish club Celta Vigo. Fernando Bassey was a player who really came to the club with lots of expectations and he did not really live up to the billing. His first season at Asante Kotoko was troubled by lots of injuries and bad moments.
Even before he joined Asante Kotoko, Wisdom Fernando Bassey had not played active football for a while, the technical team had to give him some time to get match fitness. When he did he showed some glimpses of what he had in him, but the sad part was that things just did not go well for the young Nigerian.
He always gave the fans a reason to be on the field, but almost every time he was on the field, his moves were dangerous but he final delivery was always lacking the quality of a winger who said he was more of assist orientated player. 
He scored a goal for the club in his first season. The goal was against Dreams FC. As it is being reported that he may leave there asre other players who would also follow and some new players would be announced this week as well. All is for the well being of the club.
He has done his part for the porcupine warriors for the fact that news about his exit was not with any bad reception knows that many of the followers did not really want his to stay the few that had that feelings of second chance didn't really have any point to justify it. It's been reported that he would play for another Nigerian premier league club next season. He came with lots of promise and he just knows that he let many people down and would love to make an impact next season
