Allegation to Abandon Independent Parliamentary Bid

Cynthia Morrison, former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has vehemently denied allegations that she received a GHC 50 million bribe to step down from her independent parliamentary bid in the upcoming general elections. The allegations, which have been circulating in political circles, suggest that Morrison was paid off to withdraw her candidacy, a claim she has swiftly dismissed as entirely false and politically motivated.

In a press release issued on Monday, Morrison firmly stated that no amount of money could buy her conscience or sway her decision to serve her people. She described the allegation as an attempt to tarnish her image and derail her campaign. "These claims are baseless, and I categorically deny ever receiving any bribe, let alone GHC 50 million, to abandon my parliamentary bid," she said.

Morrison reiterated her commitment to running as an independent candidate, emphasizing that her decision to contest the parliamentary seat was born out of a genuine desire to effect positive change in her constituency, not for personal financial gain. "My decision to run independently is grounded in my belief that I can better serve my constituents outside the confines of partisan politics. I have always put my people first, and no amount of money can make me abandon that commitment," she added.

The former minister also expressed disappointment over the growing trend of using baseless accusations to discredit political opponents in the heat of election campaigns. According to her, such tactics only serve to distract from the real issues affecting the electorate. "We need to focus on the needs of the people, not resort to mudslinging and character assassination. This is not the kind of politics that will move our nation forward," Morrison urged.

Despite the controversy, Morrison has vowed to continue her campaign, reassuring her supporters that she remains undeterred by the false accusations. She expressed confidence that the truth would prevail and called on the public to remain vigilant and not be swayed by fabricated stories. "I am more determined than ever to see this race through to the end. My supporters and the good people of my constituency know my track record, and they will not be misled by these lies," she said.

As the election date approaches, Morrison's denial of the bribe allegations is expected to be closely scrutinized by both the media and political analysts. Her resolve to stand firm against these claims may strengthen her position among voters who view her as a leader driven by principle and integrity.

The allegations come amidst heightened political activity, with candidates vying for public attention and support. However, Morrison has made it clear that she will not be distracted by unsubstantiated rumors, choosing instead to focus on her campaign and her vision for her constituency.
