His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor became the Chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008 and his victory over John Evans Atta Mills at the end of Jerry Rawlings' second term marked the first transition of power in Ghana from a democratic government to another democratic government. The former president of Ghana, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor was born on the 8th of December 1938. His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor is a Ghanaian politician who served as the President of Ghana from 7th January 2001 to 7th January 2009 on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. After leaving office as the president of Ghana, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress NDC, the Late John Evans Atta Mills defeated Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo to win the 2008 elections.
