Ghanaian artist Sefadzi Abena Amesu, widely known as Sefa, has announced her departure from the Black Avenue Muzik label, which is owned by musician and entrepreneur D-Black. In an interview with Accra 100.5 FM on October 24, 2024, Sefa shared insights about her exit and her experiences at the label.
During the conversation, Sefa expressed her disappointment over the lack of promotional support for her latest single, "Vibration." She stated, "I no longer work with Black Avenue," confirming her decision to part ways with the label. When asked when she left, the "E Choke" singer noted that she had been independent for "some time," highlighting the gradual nature of her departure.
She elaborated, "First of all, my contract ended. You know, I have always said that when you work with people you consider family, it’s a roller coaster—things happen, and misunderstandings arise." Sefa's comments reflect the complexities of professional relationships in the music industry, particularly when personal connections are involved.
Sefa was signed to D-Black's label for nearly seven years, during which she produced a series of hit songs, including "Fever," "E Choke," "Shuga," "Player," and "Vibration." Her single "E Choke" earned her significant recognition, winning the Afrobeats Song of the Year award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards in 2022.
Now pursuing an independent career, Sefa is focused on establishing her own identity in the music industry. She recently released a new song titled "All Over," featuring Camidoh, signaling her transition into solo artistry. This move comes as part of her broader goal to explore creative avenues without the constraints of a record label.
Sefa’s departure from Black Avenue Muzik marks a pivotal moment in her career, allowing her to take greater control of her music and brand. As she embarks on this new chapter, fans are eager to see how her sound and artistic direction evolve in the coming years. With her talent and determination, Sefa is poised to make a significant impact as an independent artist in the Ghanaian music scene.
