Leverkusen's Amine Adli to Miss Remainder of 2024 Due to Injury

Bayer Leverkusen winger Amine Adli has been ruled out for the rest of 2024 following a leg fracture sustained during the team's 1-1 draw with Brest in the Champions League on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Moroccan international suffered the injury just 18 minutes after being introduced as a substitute in the second half, forcing him to leave the pitch in visible pain after a tackle.

On Thursday, the reigning Bundesliga champions confirmed that Adli had fractured his left fibula and would require surgery later the same day. As a result, the winger is expected to be sidelined until January 2025, marking a significant setback for both the player and the club.

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso expressed his disappointment over the injury, noting that it was the most devastating outcome of the day. "We are sad for Amine; it doesn't look good," Alonso said, emphasizing the blow this injury deals to the team, especially during a critical period in the season. The timing of Adli's absence could not be worse for Leverkusen, who are set to play five matches in the next 16 days across various competitions.

Adli has been a key figure for Leverkusen this season, featuring in all 11 of the club's matches across competitions. His versatility and pace on the wings have made him a valuable asset in Leverkusen's attacking setup. His absence will force Alonso to rely on alternative options as the team navigates a congested fixture schedule.

Leverkusen, who are also competing in the Bundesliga and Champions League, will need to adapt quickly to cope with the loss of one of their key players. The club’s medical team will work on ensuring Adli's recovery progresses smoothly, with hopes that he will be back in action when the Bundesliga resumes in January.

Adli's injury also comes at a crucial time in his career, as he has been a rising star in Leverkusen's squad. The winger, who has impressed with his dribbling and pace, will now focus on rehabilitation with the goal of making a strong return in the new year.
