Mohammed Kudus did not receive the 2024 CAF Men's Player of the Year honor.
The CAF Men's Player of the Year award list, which was revealed on Thursday, surprisingly omitted Ghanaian sensation Mohammed Kudus.
Many expected his inclusion and hoped he would compete for a podium finish because of his outstanding season for both club and country.
Kudus, an attacking midfielder 24 years old, was left off of CAF's list of 10 nominees despite his stellar achievements.
He performed admirably at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, winning Man of the Match twice and scoring two goals against Egypt.
The CAF list notably left out both the defending champion Victor Osimhen and his countryman Victor Boniface, who had a terrific season with Bayer Leverkusen and won the Bundesliga.
Mohamed Salah of Liverpool is one of the other prominent absences, while Edmond Tapsoba, Amine Gouiri, Chancel Mbemba, Simon Adingra, and Achraf Hakimi are among the nominees. Ademola Lookman, who was considered a strong possibility after his hat-trick in the Europa League final that saw Atalanta win, was among the other nominees along with Soufiane Rahimi, William Troost-Ekong, and Ronwen Williams.
