Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed disappointment over missed chances and a lack of efficiency in front of goal following their crushing 4-0 loss to Barcelona in the Clasico. Despite Real’s early dominance, they could not convert their opportunities, particularly with an off-form Kylian Mbappe. Speaking in the post-match press conference, Ancelotti noted, “It was an evenly played match until they scored their first goal. We played with intensity in the first half but lacked a bit of accuracy. We had chances to take the lead, but they scored two goals, which sapped our energy. That’s when another game started.”
Real Madrid had opportunities in the first half but failed to capitalize. The turning point came early in the second half when Robert Lewandowski scored a quick double for Barcelona. Ancelotti emphasized how this changed the dynamics of the match, saying it took a toll on his squad's energy and focus. “We were playing well,” he explained, “but once they went ahead, it shifted the momentum.”
While Ancelotti acknowledged the disappointment, he urged his team and fans to look ahead and maintain confidence. “We are hurt. It’s a tough moment, but I want to thank the fans for their support. We don’t have to throw everything away because there is nothing to throw away. The season is long, and we must not give up,” he said, calling for resilience.
He expressed belief that the final score didn’t fully reflect the quality of his team’s performance, citing their early control of the game. However, he admitted that a lack of precision in front of goal ultimately cost them. Ancelotti also commented on Mbappe’s struggles, as he was caught offside multiple times, which hindered their ability to exploit Barcelona’s high defensive line. “It was known that Barca use a high defense, and we barely took advantage of it. (Mbappe) had chances, sometimes was offside, but there were a few chances where he needed to be more accurate,” Ancelotti remarked.
With this defeat, Real Madrid’s 42-game unbeaten streak in LaLiga came to an end, just one game shy of Barcelona’s league record of 43 matches. Barcelona’s victory saw them extend their lead at the top of the table, moving six points clear of Real. Despite this setback, Ancelotti remains focused on the long season ahead, emphasizing the importance of learning from the defeat and bouncing back stronger.
