The immediate past General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias Sir John, at a grand rally in Accra last weekend, passionately appealed to Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the forthcoming election.
Speaking before a teeming number of enthusiastic supporters, Sir John hailed the track record of Dr. Bawumia, who is currently Vice President of the country and has contributed to its economic policies. He told them that at this moment in history, when the country is trying to get back on its feet after the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghana needs an economist and a financier as head of state if it is to recover and grow. "Dr. Bawumia has proved that he is not only an effective leader but a visionary who has the understanding of what our people want," Sir John told them.
Sir John explained that the NPP needs unity, and for such unity, members of the party should support Bawumia as a representative that will satisfactorily capture their interest and aspirations. "Now is the time for us to come together as one party and support a leader who embodies the values and principles we stand for," he said.
He said the former General Secretary also addressed the wider electorate, appealing for Ghanaians regardless of party affiliation to give consideration to stability and progress which Dr Bawumia promises. "This election is not just about party affiliation; it's about the future of our nation. We need a leader who will prioritize the economy, create jobs, and improve living standards for all Ghanaians," he said.
Present at the rally were supporters expressing their excitement towards the candidature of Dr. Bawumia amid slogans chanted and placards held to lift his achievement. Most of those present at the rally voiced their firm belief that the presidency of Bawumia would bring about changes in the country.
In sum, Sir John's declaration for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is all that this is a most critical moment for the NPP to go into the electioneering fray because the date of the election is fast approaching. The fast-approaching date of the election brings both supporters and opponents into readiness for what will indeed be a determining contest in Ghana's political climate.
