Son Heung-min to Miss Spurs' League Cup Clash Against Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur will be without their captain Son Heung-min for their League Cup fourth-round match against Manchester City on Wednesday. Son, who had returned to action following a three-match absence due to a hamstring injury, experienced some "soreness" after Tottenham's win over West Ham on October 19. As a precaution, manager Ange Postecoglou has opted to rest the South Korean forward for the clash with City, with hopes that he will be fit for their upcoming Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Speaking about Son's recovery, Postecoglou stated, "Sonny is almost fit, but we’re aiming for the weekend. We're quite confident he'll be ready." While Son’s absence is a setback, Spurs are dealing with other injury concerns. Wilson Odobert suffered a more serious injury during training, and his return remains uncertain. However, there’s good news for Spurs fans as Djed Spence has returned to training, offering a boost to the squad’s defensive options.

With Son unavailable, 17-year-old Mikey Moore, who started during Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, might be on the bench against City. Meanwhile, Postecoglou has options in the form of Timo Werner and Richarlison, who is now fit and could lead the attack.

On the other side, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has often downplayed the importance of the League Cup, prioritizing other competitions. Nonetheless, Postecoglou recognizes the consistent quality of City, who have dominated the League Cup in recent years with eight titles. He expressed respect for City’s approach, stating, "You just have to look at Man City's record in this competition…they continually deliver a level of performance whether they've rotated the team or not."

Tottenham's last major trophy came in 2008, and their fans eagerly anticipate another title. However, Postecoglou made it clear that every game is important, regardless of the competition. "I'd hate to think any supporter of this club believes I try harder in one game than another," he emphasized. He urged fans to understand that the club is committed to every competition, and prioritizing one game over another would be unfair.

Tottenham will face a challenging week with matches against both Manchester City and Aston Villa, but Postecoglou's focus remains on giving a strong performance in each game. The League Cup presents an opportunity for Spurs to end their trophy drought, and the team will need to deliver their best against a formidable opponent in Manchester City.
