MFANTSIPIM SCHOOL BEAT AUGUSCO WITH ONE POINT TO WIN 2024 NSMQ

Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast triumphed in the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), clinching the title with a narrow victory over St Augustine's College by just one point. The competition, held in Cape Coast, was a showcase of academic brilliance and intense rivalry, solidifying the city’s reputation as a hub for educational excellence.

The contest began with a tightly contested atmosphere. By the end of the first round, both Mfantsipim and St Augustine's were tied at 24 points, while Keta Senior High Technical School trailed with 13 points. As the rounds progressed, St Augustine's maintained a slight lead, finishing the fourth round with 46 points, just ahead of Mfantsipim's 44 points and Keta SHTS’s 26 points.

The defining moment came in the fifth round, the riddle round, where Mfantsipim School answered a crucial riddle correctly, propelling their score to 47 points. This last-minute triumph edged out St Augustine’s, which finished with 46 points, while Keta SHTS rounded off the contest with 32 points.


As champions, Mfantsipim took home the coveted NSMQ trophy, GH¢70,000 in cash, and various other prizes, alongside significant bragging rights. St Augustine's College received GH¢50,000 and additional goodies for their second-place finish, while Keta SHTS earned GH¢35,000 for third place.

The NSMQ, launched in 1993 by Primetime Limited, has evolved into Ghana's premier academic competition, fostering interest in science and maths among high school students. This year's edition featured a record 157 schools, with the competition shifting to Cape Coast, allowing more regional audiences to engage in the thrilling experience. The NSMQ not only promotes academic excellence but also inspires future generations of scientists and mathematicians across Ghana.
