Hajia Fatahiya Aziz Breaks Ground for Savelugu NHIS Office
Savelugu, Ghana – In a very unmatched and unprecedented moment in the history of Savelugu, Hajia Fatahiya Aziz, one of the local leaders who has been an ardent advocate for access to healthcare, broke the ground for the new National Health Insurance Scheme office on 30th October 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by locals, officials, community leaders, and residents, emphasizing the great development the community would enjoy toward their health service delivery.
She emphasized, during the address, that accessible health care is important for all citizens. "The establishment of this NHIS office will ensure that our people have better access to health services, ultimately improving their quality of life," she added. With the new facility, the process of health insurance was expected to be smoother, as it would guarantee a smooth registration to allow more citizens to benefit from the NHIS.
For a very long time, Savelugu District has been faced with unease concerning accessibility to health, whereby most of the residents have to cover miles to get to insurance services. This office is now at the district level to ease such burdens; it therefore provides a place for registration, claims processing, and health education.
The local government was in support of the gesture, indicating it was a sure case that the health delivery in the area needed the initiative. "We are committed to improving health services in Savelugu," said the District Chief Executive, who also attended the ceremony. "This NHIS office is a testament to our dedication to ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the health care they deserve."
The community members celebrated this establishment of a new office as well. Many residents expressed optimism that it would translate into better health outcomes and increased awareness of the importance of health insurance. "This is a long-awaited development," one resident said. "We are grateful to Hajia Aziz and the local government for prioritizing our health needs."
Once constructions begin, the new office for NHIS will be ready within the next six months. It is an indication of the commitment by local leaders to improve access to health, but more so towards the government's efforts in improving health services around the nation of Ghana.
