Ruben Amorim has been announced as the new Manchester United manager and given a start date.
Manchester United have decided to make Ruben Amorim their next manager, replacing Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday. The Portuguese coach made his debut at Ipswich in late November.
Ruben Amorim will become Manchester United's new manager, although he will not take command of his first game until November 24, when the squad travels to Ipswich.
Following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday, the Red Devils moved rapidly to reach an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for their future manager. The defeat at West Ham was the final straw, and the Dutchman was given his marching orders with the Premier League's bottom half club.
Within hours, Amorim was confirmed as the hierarchy's primary goal, and they pursued the Sporting Lisbon head. United has paid the compensation sum required to secure the 39-year-old midway through the season, as well as an additional money to ensure that several of his coaching staff are available.
The Portuguese coach will officially begin his new post on Monday, November 11, and he becomes the first managerial appointment of the INEOS ownership, which has received criticism for their delay in firing Ten Hag after considering it in the summer.
A statement read: "Manchester United is pleased to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the Men's First Team, subject to work visa restrictions. He will join till June 2027, with a club option for an extra year after fulfilling his responsibilities with his present club.
"He will join Manchester United on Monday, November 11." Ruben is one of the most dynamic and well-regarded young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.
"Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins."
