ZESCO United Look to Regain Momentum Against ZANACO

ZESCO United, the current leaders of the MTN Super League, are hoping to recover their form as they prepare for a critical home clash against ZANACO on Sunday. ZESCO’s lead at the top of the league has been reduced to a mere three points after securing just one win in their last three fixtures. A strong performance is essential if they hope to retain their edge and halt a series of inconsistent displays.

Despite ZANACO’s struggles this season — they’re winless in eight games (five draws and three losses) since August 17 — ZESCO cannot afford to underestimate them. The last three encounters between the two teams have been evenly matched, with each side securing a win and drawing once. Although ZESCO sit at the top while ZANACO are much further down the table, the encounter promises to be tight, with both teams eager to make a statement.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Red Arrows have turned around a rough start to their season and will be chasing their third consecutive win when they face Nkana on Sunday. Arrows have a chance to momentarily take the lead in the league with a two-goal victory before ZESCO play the following day. Interestingly, this match marks the first meeting between the two clubs in nearly a year, with Arrows having narrowly won both of last season’s encounters. Notably, Nkana has generally kept the scoring low in these matchups, with goals being rare.

Elsewhere in the league, Power Dynamos have climbed to third place after three consecutive wins and will be looking to continue their streak against Lumwana Radiants, a team they’ve dominated in recent years, going unbeaten in their last 13 matchups. Mutondo Stars, who were recently on a four-game winning streak, were held to a 1-1 draw by ZANACO last weekend. They’ll now take on the unpredictable Green Buffaloes, who they defeated 3-0 in this fixture last season. Just one point separates the two teams, promising a close and competitive game.

Saturday’s fixtures include a mid-table battle between NAPSA Stars and Forest Rangers, both sitting on 12 points, and a promising match for Nchanga Rangers, who travel to face Atletico Lusaka, an undefeated side at home this season. In other games, Green Eagles host Mufulira Wanderers, Kabwe Warriors take on FC MUZA, and Indeni, still searching for their first win, visit Nkwazi.
