Below is what a young Apostles fan wrote ahead of their match against Dreams FC in which they won.
The Ghana Premier League enters match day eight at the various league centers over the weekend. Wenchi Young Apostles FC is scheduled to host Dreams FC at the now much fancied Nana Abrefah Nketiah VII Park. The stakes are extremely high as the maximum points at stake can better the lot of the winner in the league table. No team ought to be aided to win the unreservedly or be given any easy escape route. The game must be allowed to produce the outcome naturally and not manipulated.
We are also not oblivious of the fact that, Dreams FC is not in the best shape and form and are in dire need of the points. We know the owners of the team are neck deep in the movers and shakers of the Ghana Football Association. Our concern as stakeholders of Young Apostles FC has to do with the activities of "agenda officiating" in moments such as this. We are therefore appealing to the conscience of the body in charge of appointments of referees for games not to appoint officials who are susceptible to the execution of hatchet jobs.
We've so far suffered such poor officiating when we hosted Nations FC in our first home game. In that game, we scored a perfect goal but was unfortunately not made to stand or count. That game ended in a stalemate or barren
. We're therefore appealing to Discretionary application of the rules should not be seen to be bias. We're appealing to whoever will be given the opportunity to handle the match not to commit too many errors all in the name of "no man is infallible" and all going against one team.
The fact that Dreams FC is desperately hungry for points doesn't mean they should win at all cost. We need to sanitize our game and doing so partly depends on officiating calls during games. Hooliganism is frowned upon by all well-meaning stakeholders of the game and we should not give them any reason to have their day during match days. We must all strive to rid the game off hooligans by doing the right things and treating all teams fairly.
