Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will engage in an important exercise with the youth of Ghana on November 3, in efforts toward the creation of jobs and economic opportunities for them. The idea behind this move is to find a way of addressing the alarming rate at which the country's youth are becoming unemployed, further exacerbated by the global economic downturn and local economic challenges.
The event, scheduled to take place in Accra, is expected to attract a diverse group of young people, including entrepreneurs, students, and recent graduates. Dr. Bawumia will, therefore, outline government strategies to foster a congenial environment that ensures job creation, particularly innovating and entrepreneurship as ways necessary for tackling unemployment.
In the last two or so decades, youths in Ghana have faced blatant challenges with regard to securing employment opportunities. With a predominantly youthful population, the need for targeted job creation programs is now more pressing than ever. The vice president's engagement not only informs but also motivates these young people about the potential opportunities available within the fields of technology, agriculture, and the creative arts, among others.
He is expected to boast about some successful government initiatives that include the Youth Employment Agency and the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, which he said so far proved their potential to employ people and develop the youth. He would be expected to call for effective coordination between the private sector and educational institutions in providing students with relevant skills they need on the modern job market.
They will be allowed to ask questions and discuss; this will further provide an avenue for giving their views about their experiences and challenges in the job market. This is the two-way communication that develops a sense of community and collaboration between the government and the youth.
The coming engagement reiterates commitment by government to address youth unemployment and stimulating economic growth. By engaging the youths directly in discussing their future, Dr. Bawumia intends to give them the capacity to start taking leading roles in career development and how they can contribute toward the growth of the nation.
Anticipation is building up among the youths, who expect to be enlightened on various ways through which they can find employment.
