Ghanaian filmmaker Peter Sedufia has revealed that filming his upcoming movie, "One Night Guests," in Nigeria was more cost-effective than shooting in Ghana. In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Sedufia explained that his decision to produce the film in Nigeria was driven by practical business considerations.
Sedufia noted the challenges he faced in securing investment in Ghana, where potential investors were often skeptical despite his track record. "Finding investors in Ghana was quite a hectic one," he shared. "People know your numbers and what you can do, but the skepticism is still there. In contrast, when you approach a Nigerian business person, they’re more open to financing your project. They say, ‘We like it, we’re gonna give you money,’ and they expect you to work where the resources and opportunities are."
While Sedufia emphasized that "One Night Guests" is a passion project, he acknowledged that filmmaking is ultimately a business venture. The decision to shoot in Nigeria was also practical, given that the production required only one location, making the transition feasible.
The filmmaker further highlighted significant differences in equipment rental costs between the two countries. He pointed out that he could rent camera equipment in Nigeria for around $60-$65 per day, while similar equipment in Ghana would cost between $500 and $700 per day. This stark contrast in costs played a crucial role in his decision to film in Nigeria.
"One Night Guests" is a suspenseful drama that delves into the complexities of human relationships and the unexpected twists that can alter lives in an instant. The film features a talented cast from both Nigeria and Ghana, including Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, Warri Pikin, Roselyn Ngissah, James Gardiner, and Akah Nnani, among others.
The film is set for a dual premiere on Christmas Day, 2024, in cinemas across both Nigeria and Ghana, marking a significant cultural exchange between the two nations. Directed by Peter Sedufia, "One Night Guests" is produced by OldFilm Productions (Ghana), Sozo Films (Nigeria), and Gravel Road Studios (South Africa). The simultaneous release is anticipated to be a major event, celebrating unity and collaboration within the film industry of West Africa.
