May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie, has addressed the criticism she has received from some men following her decision to file for divorce. In a report by Nigeria’s Daily Post, it was revealed that May filed for divorce in 2023, citing Yul’s adultery, particularly in connection with his marriage to fellow actress Judy Austin.

In the wake of her divorce announcement, May faced backlash from several men who accused her of promoting divorce among women. In an interview on the Glasshouse podcast with comedian AY Makun, she responded to these claims, clarifying her stance on marriage and family.

“Some men see me as someone that is misleading their wives,” May stated. She emphasized her love for family and the institution of marriage but also acknowledged that there is a common misconception about what marriage truly represents. “Marriage is ideally the foundation of family,” she explained, pointing out that the existence of individuals is intrinsically linked to family structures.

May articulated her deep respect for marriage, stating, “I’m not in any way advocating separation or divorce in any way. Let me categorically state now that I’m not an advocate for divorce.” Her intention, she insists, is not to encourage others to break their marital bonds, but to clarify her own situation and the circumstances that led to her decision.

She further elaborated on the importance of understanding the complexities of marriage and the reasons that may lead someone to seek a divorce. According to May, it is essential to recognize that not all marriages function well, and sometimes individuals must make difficult choices to protect their well-being.

Through her interview, May aimed to foster a conversation about the realities of marriage, emphasizing that while she values family, her experience has led her to a place where she must prioritize her own happiness and mental health. She encourages a deeper understanding of marital issues rather than simply casting judgment on those who choose to leave a marriage under challenging circumstances.

Ultimately, May Edochie's response highlights her desire to clarify her position and advocate for awareness of the complexities of marriage, rather than to promote divorce as a solution. Her words aim to resonate with those facing similar struggles, reminding them that their experiences and feelings are valid.
