Bawku Conflict: Dr. Victor Doke Calls for Appointment of Alhaji Seidu to Restore Calm

   By Albert Kuzor – 2 November 2024, 10:52 AM

In a bid to restore lasting peace in Bawku, Dr. Victor Doke has suggested appointing Alhaji Seidu, a prominent figure from Bawku, as a mediator. Dr. Doke believes that Alhaji Seidu’s leadership qualities and strong ties to the community make him an ideal candidate to lead reconciliation efforts and bridge divides among warring factions.

The Bawku conflict, which has seen sporadic clashes over the years, has deep historical and cultural roots, often complicating peace-building efforts. Various stakeholders, including traditional authorities, government representatives, and community leaders, have made attempts to broker peace, but challenges persist. Dr. Doke argues that a new approach is necessary—one that focuses on local, respected figures with intimate knowledge of the situation.

Alhaji Seidu, known for his diplomatic skills and community-centered approach, has previously worked on peace initiatives in the region. According to Dr. Doke, Seidu’s experience and reputation within Bawku could enable him to garner trust across different communities and facilitate a meaningful dialogue. Dr. Doke’s recommendation comes amidst renewed efforts by the government and local security to ensure stability and security in the Kusaug Region.

The call to appoint Alhaji Seidu aligns with the broader sentiment that sustainable peace can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue and recognition of the needs and perspectives of all involved parties. The Bawku conflict has disrupted social and economic activities in the area, and a resolution would bring relief to thousands of residents who long for stability and development in their community.

Dr. Doke's suggestion has been welcomed by several members of the community, who echo his view that peacebuilding should prioritize trust and local knowledge. Alhaji Seidu, if appointed, would have the responsibility of convening dialogues, building consensus, and establishing a framework for ongoing reconciliation efforts. This grassroots approach, Dr. Doke argues, holds the greatest potential for a sustained peace in Bawku.
