Harry Kane Leads Bayern to Victory as Scoring Race with Marmoush Heats Up
Harry Kane starred for Bayern Munich on Saturday, scoring twice and assisting another goal in a commanding 3-0 victory over Union Berlin. With this win, Bayern extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga by three points, a significant boost after recent struggles in the Champions League.
Kane put Bayern in the lead just 15 minutes into the match, converting a penalty after Union’s Benedict Hollerbach fouled Michael Olise near the box. Kane’s contributions didn’t stop there; just before halftime, he set up Kingsley Coman, laying off a pass that Coman fired past Union’s goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow. Early in the second half, Kane completed his brace by capitalizing on a loose ball, narrowly beating teammate Jamal Musiala to score Bayern’s third goal.
Despite back-to-back Champions League defeats to Aston Villa and Barcelona, Bayern has shown resilience on the domestic front, scoring 16 goals without conceding in their last four Bundesliga games. Reflecting on the team’s recent form, Kane emphasized the importance of carrying this confidence into future Champions League matches. “If we use the confidence that we’ve played the last few games with, we can cause any team a lot of problems,” he said. Kane also noted Bayern’s strong mentality and expressed optimism about the club’s trajectory, stating, “If we keep going like this, everything will be OK – we’re in good shape.”
Union Berlin, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, now sit sixth in the Bundesliga. Their captain, Christopher Trimmel, acknowledged Bayern’s superior quality but remained pragmatic, saying, “Bayern were the favourites and have unbelievable quality.”
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig has the opportunity to draw level with Bayern at the top of the table if they secure a win against Borussia Dortmund later in the day.
Kane vs. Marmoush in the Bundesliga Scoring Race
Kane’s performance also positioned him ahead in the Bundesliga scoring race against Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush. Marmoush, who scored one goal and assisted two others in Frankfurt’s 7-2 rout of Bochum, has been in impressive form. In Frankfurt’s crushing victory, Hugo Ekitike also netted twice, while Ansgar Knauff, Nathaniel Brown, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Can Uzun added to the tally. Marmoush’s goal brings his season total to 10, trailing Kane’s 11, but he leads the league with six assists, one more than Kane’s five.
Frankfurt’s victory propelled them into third place, overtaking Bayer Leverkusen and closing the gap with Bayern. Bochum, however, remains in last place with only one point from nine games.
Saturday also saw wins from both newly promoted sides, St Pauli and Holstein Kiel. Kiel earned a historic first win in the top division, beating Heidenheim 1-0 with a goal from Patrick Erras. Meanwhile, St Pauli defeated Hoffenheim 2-0 with goals from Oladapo Afolayan and Andreas Albers, pulling level with Hoffenheim and escaping the immediate relegation zone.
