Bawumia Urges Ghanaian Youth to Vote in December Elections for a Better Future
The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the youth of Ghana to actively participate in the December 7 elections, emphasizing the importance of their role in shaping the nation’s future. Speaking at a youth-focused event at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra on November 3, Bawumia underscored the power of their vote, calling the upcoming election a chance to secure a brighter future for themselves and for the country.
“December is about you. December is about your future,” he told the youth, urging them to consider carefully who they want to lead the country. In his message, Bawumia encouraged them not to be discouraged by the current economic challenges, but instead to see voting as a critical step toward change and progress.
He urged the youth to make an informed choice between him and former leaders who, in his view, represent a step backward. Bawumia assured his audience that, if elected, his administration would place youth priorities at the forefront of policy decisions. “Your concerns are my priority, and I mean it from my heart,” he stated, adding that he would actively involve the youth in shaping policies that affect their lives.
Bawumia laid out his vision for Ghana, which includes implementing “bold, business-friendly policies” aimed at boosting employment and economic opportunities for young people. He expressed his intention to foster a robust environment for entrepreneurship and job creation, addressing the need for innovative policies that cater to the aspirations of Ghana’s young generation. “I will introduce initiatives that will create a large pool of jobs that the youth desire and deserve,” he assured them.
A key component of his platform is the commitment to safeguarding public resources. Bawumia emphasized that, as president, he would prioritize transparency and financial responsibility, promising to “protect the public purse” if elected. His goal, he explained, is to ensure that public funds are managed efficiently and that corruption is curbed to foster sustainable development.
His message to the youth also included a reminder of the need to look forward rather than backward, stressing the importance of fresh perspectives and innovative leadership. Bawumia’s remarks follow his earlier proposals to create policies for small-scale miners, improve the business environment, and attract investment, all part of his broader plan to stimulate economic growth.
As Ghana approaches the 2024 elections, Bawumia’s address seeks to inspire young voters to take an active role in determining the nation’s future, positioning their involvement as essential to achieving a more prosperous Ghana.
