Tragedy in Ashanti Region: Three Teenage Girls Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old Graduate
In the Ashanti Region of Ghana, three teenage girls have been detained following the tragic death of Dennis Owusu Ansah, a 16-year-old recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduate. Dennis, who was eagerly preparing to start his secondary education at Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School on November 7, 2024, lost his life after a violent altercation.
The incident reportedly unfolded on the night of Monday, November 4, in Anloga, a community within the Ashanti Region. According to witnesses, the confrontation began as a misunderstanding between Dennis and one of the teenage girls. The three girls had been escorting a friend home when the dispute erupted. During the escalation, one of the girls allegedly drew a knife and stabbed Dennis in the rib, resulting in severe injuries.
After the attack, Dennis was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to extensive blood loss. The shocking incident has left the local community and Dennis’s family devastated. Speaking to the media, Stella Frimpong, Dennis’s mother, expressed her disbelief and grief over her son's untimely death. “We had just visited his school on Saturday to prepare for his enrollment. He was meant to start on Thursday. I plead with the authorities to ensure justice is served for my child.”
The victim’s older brother, Evans Owusu Ansah, echoed this plea, stressing the importance of holding those responsible accountable. “It’s unimaginable that a young girl of 15 could commit such an act. We are calling on the government to ensure justice is served. You can’t take a life this way.”
The tragic nature of the incident has sparked discussions on youth violence, community safety, and the need for effective conflict resolution education among young people. Community leaders and residents have also raised concerns about the rising availability of weapons among minors and have urged the authorities to prioritize addressing these issues.
The police investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the three teenagers involved remain in custody. Authorities have promised a thorough probe to understand the circumstances that led to the confrontation. Dennis’s family, along with the community, is hopeful that justice will be served in this deeply unsettling case.
