The Electoral Commission has started printing ballot papers for 2024 elections. However the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made allegations that officials linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Electoral Commission (EC) were caught in the act of printing 3, 000 extra ballot papers in certain constituencies across the Ashanti and Eastern regions. These two regions are widely recognized as NPP strongholds.
According to the NDC, the additional ballots were printed beyond the number required by law, raising questions about the intentions behind this alleged act. If true, the situation could have significant implications for the integrity of the electoral process. The Ashanti and Eastern regions have historically delivered substantial support for the NPP, making this allegation all the more contentious. Some observers believe that the alleged act, if proven, could be part of a broader strategy to strengthen the NPP' s vote count in these areas.
It was further revealed that these additional 3, 000 ballot sheets were not printed in regions that are swing voters or strongholds of the opposition NDC.
Such a whopping amount of 3, 000 only gives them an indication that the EC and NPP are up to some dark schemes to rig if not steal votes.
The NDC has called for a full investigation into the matter and demanded that both the Electoral Commission and the NPP leadership address the issue transparently. " Such actions undermine the democratic process and fuel mistrust in our electoral institutions, " a statement from the NDC spokesperson read. They also stressed the need for rigorous monitoring and security protocols to ensure a fair and transparent election outcome.
With tensions already running high as elections approach, accusations of ballot manipulation are likely to deepen mistrust between the two leading parties and raise public concern about the credibility of the upcoming vote.
