The Ghana Police Service has tracked the getaway vehicle used in a recent armed robbery at Adabraka, Accra, to Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region. The incident, which took place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, involved a Toyota Highlander, registration number GN 7357-19, which was reportedly spotted on surveillance footage leaving the crime scene and later traced to Ashaiman.
Images of the vehicle have since been circulated on social media by security agencies as part of the ongoing investigation. The Toyota Highlander was reportedly seen passing key locations across Accra, including the Sunny FM Roundabout, Shiashie, Accra Mall, and eventually heading through Ashaiman Zenu.
According to eyewitness reports, four armed and masked men were involved in the heist, which targeted a man parked near the busy Adabraka market. The robbers, carrying firearms, approached a red Toyota Corolla parked outside a jewelry store and immediately began firing shots into the air to disperse onlookers. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as shoppers and vendors fled for cover, seeking refuge behind market stalls and storefronts.
Once the crowd had scattered, the suspects forced their way into the Toyota Corolla and seized large sacks of cash that had just been placed in the vehicle’s trunk. The gang then fled the scene in the Toyota Highlander, sparking a widespread manhunt by the police.
In a public statement, the police assured citizens that all efforts were being made to locate and apprehend the robbers. "We want to assure the public that we are committed to capturing these individuals and ensuring they face justice," the statement read. Authorities have intensified their search for the suspects and are appealing to the public for any information that could aid the investigation.
The police also highlighted their use of advanced tracking methods and community collaboration to trace the suspects' movements across Accra. Their commitment to swift justice, they noted, is part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and reduce crime in Ghana’s urban centers.
The robbery incident has drawn significant public attention, with many expressing concerns about the safety of high-traffic areas in Accra. Security officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as they continue their search for the perpetrators. Meanwhile, social media users have commended the police for the quick action in tracking the vehicle and have expressed hopes for a prompt resolution to the case.
This incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling organized crime in urban areas and the importance of community vigilance and support in assisting police efforts. The investigation continues, with further updates expected as authorities work to bring the suspects to justice.
