The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, explained that the dire need to equip them with digital skills is to ensure that they do not lag behind as the world increasingly adopts technological innovations. At the launch of a national drive to encourage digital literacy and the development of skills among the populace, Bawumia underscored the importance of investing in the younger generation for their sustenance in the global job market.

We cannot afford to leave our youth behind in digital skills," Bawumia said. "As technology continues to keep the pace at which industries, economies, and societies are being redefined, our youth must get ready for new opportunities and challenges.

He explained that indeed, digital skills are no longer a luxury, but rather a core component in modern education, business, and innovation. According to him, it is about time Ghana prepared the youth with the necessary tools to maintain relevance in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by rapid digital transformation that is driving growth in major sectors of the economy, including agriculture, health, finance, and education.

Bawumia also reiterated the government's commitment toward digitalizing education and ensuring that the digital gap is reduced. The program, supported by stakeholders, will involve training in coding, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics, among others. The initiative falls within Ghana's larger vision of transitioning into a technology-driven economy.

The Vice President also chipped in with the private sector's role in this mission. "We require very strong partnerships between government, educational institutions, and the private sector to ensure we are creating an ecosystem that empowers young people," he added.

He, therefore, called for the collaboration of all stakeholders in creating the enabling environment where digital literacy and innovation would be at the core of the country's development. He noted that by investing in the digital future of its youth, Ghana would not only improve the quality of its manpower but also position itself as a leader in the global digital economy.

This means that the initiative will reach thousands of youths of the nation who will benefit from it with the kind of skills that would empower them to excel in an increasingly digital world.
