President Akufo-Addo Unveils Self-Honoring Statue at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital Amid "Thank You" Tour
On November 6, 2024, President Nana Akufo-Addo unveiled a statue of himself at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi as part of his "thank you" tour of Ghana’s Western Region. The statue was installed to commemorate Akufo-Addo's contributions to the region, particularly in healthcare and infrastructure.
During the unveiling, the President reflected on his administration’s achievements, asserting that he has fulfilled approximately 80% of his promises to the people of Ghana. He urged voters to support the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming December 7 general elections. According to Akufo-Addo, Bawumia is best positioned to continue his administration’s policies, including initiatives in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
One of the President's proudest accomplishments, he noted, is the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which he described as a transformative legacy that has significantly broadened access to education across Ghana. "The Free SHS policy has changed the lives of countless families, ensuring that every Ghanaian child can access quality education without the barrier of fees," he stated, underscoring the program's nationwide impact.
Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who attended the event, highlighted several key projects initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration. These include the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of the Sinohydro three-tier interchange, and the redevelopment of Takoradi Market Circle. Darko-Mensah expressed his gratitude, describing the statue as a fitting tribute to the President’s dedication to regional development.
However, some of these projects remain ongoing, with anticipated completion in the coming years. The hospital rehabilitation, a major initiative, is expected to improve healthcare access and quality for the Western Region’s population. Similarly, the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment aims to modernize one of the region’s largest commercial hubs, enhancing trade and business opportunities for local vendors.
Akufo-Addo’s statue at Effia-Nkwanta has sparked both commendation and public discussion, as residents reflect on the impact of the President’s policies. For many, the statue represents progress in the Western Region, while others express hope that these projects will be completed soon to bring lasting benefits to the community.
The President’s tour across the region underscores his administration’s focus on infrastructure, education, and health initiatives designed to foster sustainable growth. As Ghanaians prepare for the upcoming elections, Akufo-Addo’s appeal to voters marks a final effort to solidify support for the NPP and ensure the continuation of his legacy through the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia.
