Workers of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital Hold Vigil for Staff Killed in Accident

Wednesday, 6 November 2024

In a solemn atmosphere at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, employees and community members gathered for a candlelight vigil on Wednesday to honor colleagues who tragically lost their lives in a recent road accident. The event was a moment of shared grief, reflection, and solidarity for the hospital staff and the families of the deceased.

The accident, which occurred on a major route leading to the hospital, claimed the lives of several dedicated healthcare workers who were returning from a professional engagement. Their passing has left a profound void in the hospital, and the entire staff and local community have been shaken by the tragedy. The victims, known for their commitment and service, were remembered not only as colleagues but as family members and friends who devoted their lives to serving others.

Dr. Emmanuel Kwesi Agyemang, the Medical Director of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, addressed attendees at the vigil, expressing deep sorrow over the loss and offering words of comfort to grieving families and staff. "They were not just our colleagues; they were our friends, our family. Their dedication to the care of others was a source of strength and pride for our hospital. Tonight, we gather to honor their memory and find comfort in each other’s presence," Dr. Agyemang said.

Amidst the candlelight, nurses, doctors, administrative staff, and other hospital employees shared stories and memories of the departed. Many spoke about the selflessness and passion of their colleagues, recounting how they went above and beyond to care for patients. Songs, prayers, and moments of silence punctuated the event, allowing each attendee a personal moment to reflect on the lives lost and the impact these individuals made in their time at the hospital.

Rev. Peter Amankwah, who led the prayers, urged the hospital workers to find strength in their shared purpose. "In times of sorrow, let us lean on each other and remember that we are part of a bigger mission. Let the legacy of those we lost inspire us to continue our work with renewed dedication," he encouraged.

The tragedy has sparked conversations on the safety and well-being of healthcare workers who often travel under demanding circumstances. Many employees and local leaders are calling for improved road safety measures to protect those commuting for work. The hospital administration has also promised to look into support measures for the grieving families and to ensure that the legacy of their colleagues lives on.

The vigil closed with a candlelit procession around the hospital grounds, a gesture symbolizing the light and hope that the departed staff members brought to the lives they touched. The staff of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital remain committed to honoring their memory through continued dedication to their mission of compassionate care.
