The age-old question of whether leaders are chosen by God or elected by men has sparked intense debate among theologians, politicians, and philosophers. While some believe that God has a hand in selecting leaders, others argue that it's purely a human decision.
In the Bible, we see numerous examples of God choosing leaders to fulfill His purposes. Moses, for instance, was chosen to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, despite his initial reluctance and lack of confidence. Similarly, King David was anointed by the prophet Samuel to become the ruler of Israel. These instances illustrate God's sovereignty and ability to raise leaders according to His will.
The Bible again provides some valuable insights into this topic, example of such can be found in Romans 13:1, which states, "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established".
Now what is the role of Humans in the selection of leaders? The Bible emphasizes the importance of human agency and free will. In democratic societies, citizens exercise their right to vote and participate in the electoral process, effectively choosing their leaders.
The phrase here; "leaders are selected by God, and elected by men" means, that God is the source of all power and authority, and he entrusts leadership roles to individuals in the church, family, workplace, government etc.
Again; though elections in the Bible are not exactly what we think of today, there are instances where leaders were chosen or appointed. In Exodus 18:21-25, Moses chose able men to be leaders over the people, with God's guidance. This was more of an appointment process, rather than a democratic election.
In Acts 6:1-6, the apostles asked the disciples to choose seven men to serve as deacons, and this is often cited as an early example of a democratic process in the Bible. However, it's essential to note that this was still a selection process within the early Christian community, rather than a broader election.
The Bible also emphasizes God's sovereignty in appointing leaders. In Daniel 2:20-21, it's written that God "changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings". This perspective highlights God's ultimate authority over human leaders.
While elections, as we know them, are not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, these principles provide valuable insights into God's perspective on leadership and authority.
The above quoted verses all underscore the idea that, leaders are really selected or ordained by God, and the manifestation of that in our modern day democracy is the election of those lucky ones into office.
Relating to this topic; prior to 2024 presidential elections in Ghana and the United States Of America (USA), dozens of Christian prophets, religious leaders with followings among Pentecostal and charismatic Christians around the world have prophesied the return of former presidents; John Mahama of Ghana and Donald Trump of USA.
The prophesies revealed that, former US president would win the November 5, 2024 election and return to the White House; whiles the former Ghanaian president will also be returning to the Jubilee House after the December 7 elections.
According to these religious leaders, their prophesy came through revelations by dreams and visions from God.
True to this, the first prophecy has been fulfilled; the Former President Donald Trump has won the elections, and became the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, gaining 295 electoral votes against Kamala Harris' 226.
For the second prophesy on Ghana's elections, Ghanaians are waiting on God and for December 7 2024.
