Scott McTominay's new nickname speaks volumes, as Erik ten Hag is proven correct.
Scott McTominay is going from strength to strength with Napoli in Serie A, and the Partenopei fans have given the Scotland international a new nickname.

Scott McTominay is thriving in Italy after leaving Manchester United against his former manager Erik ten Hag's wishes, earning him a new nickname.

The Red Devils cashed in on academy product McTominay this summer, primarily because his £25.4 million transfer fee was considered 'pure profit' by financial regulators, allowing the club to balance its books after an expensive summer.

Ten Hag, who "didn't want" to sell the Scotsman, was sacked due to a lack of improvement as a result of such spending, and Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim was lined up to replace him. However, for all the mistakes the Dutchman made at Old Trafford, his reluctance to sell McTominay may have been correct.

McTominay has adapted to Serie A like a duck to water, delivering stellar performance after stellar performance for former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, earning him the nickname 'McTotally.'

Prior to his nickname-earning exploits, McTominay received a telling comment from former boss Ten Hag. He told reporters following the midfielder's sale: "I'm very happy for Scott." As I previously stated, I did not want this when he left, but it was a consequence of the club's rules. The rules are, in my opinion, bad, but that is how the situation was created. "It forced us to make this decision."

Fast forward two months, and 'McTotally' has a goal and two assists. More importantly, he has been the beating heart of a team that now leads Serie A by four points over champions Inter.

The nickname refers to his relentless running and impressive abilities both on and off the field. He is regarded as a versatile player in Italy, and his abilities were on full display during the club's most recent match against AC Milan, according to the Daily Record.

With Stanislav Lobotka out due to injury, former Brighton and Chelsea star Billy Gilmour partnered McTominay in midfield for the crucial game, and the duo did not disappoint.
