Parliament reconvenes today amid Majority-Minority standoff over vacant seats.
Parliament is set to reconvene today, Thursday, November 7, 2024, following Speaker Alban Bagbin's directive for a session at 10:00 AM at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
This sitting is expected to address pressing issues that have remained unresolved due to a prolonged standoff within the House.
The impasse began after Speaker Bagbin declared four parliamentary seats — Fomena, Amenfi Central, Suhum, and Agona West — vacant, a move that sparked intense opposition from the Majority caucus, who argued it undermined their representation in Parliament.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin subsequently filed a writ with the Supreme Court, challenging the Speaker's authority in declaring these seats vacant.

Bawumia first disclosed details of the credit score launch during a recent visit to Yeji, a town in the Pru East district of the Bono Region.
During his visit, the Vice President emphasised that this credit score system represents a key element of his overarching vision for a more financially inclusive and economically empowered Ghana.

Concluding the third day of his Ashanti Region tour on Wednesday, Dr Bawumia addressed supporters, expressing his commitment to lead this initiative, drawing on his previous experience with the Kumasi and Tamale airport projects.
"We want to establish an Airport City here in Manhyia North so that you will gain some benefits. I led the negotiations concerning this airport with the UK government… So just as we have an Airport City in Accra, we want to have one here in Kumasi.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated Donald J. Trump on his recent victory in the U.S. presidential election, marking his return to the White House after his defeat by Joe Biden in 2020.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey described Trump's win as a positive development for the NDC as Ghana approaches its own presidential elections on December 7, 2024.
Fifi Kwetey drew parallels between the U.S. election and Ghana's upcoming polls, noting that just as American voters chose experienced leadership, Ghanaians are likely to reject the current government's record of "insensitivity, corruption, and economic mismanagement."
Election 2024: NDC raises concerns over EC's final voters register statistics
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised serious concerns over the final voter register presented by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the upcoming elections.
While EC Chairperson Jean Mensa affirmed that the final voter register was fully prepared to ensure a credible election process on December 7, 2024, the NDC remains sceptical.
Addressing party representatives in Accra on Wednesday, Mensa expressed satisfaction that all outstanding issues with the register had been resolved.
However, speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News, Dr Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC reiterated the party's objections, highlighting specific areas of the register that remain problematic.
He highlighted that the EC presented a register without accompanying statistics, which he deemed essential for transparency and accountability.
