The Call to Put Kusaug First: Loyalty to Community Over Political Ambitions
In recent times, growing frustration has emerged within the Kusaug community as certain political figures seem to place personal and political interests over the collective welfare and values of the Kusaug people. One such figure, Andrew Asungiiba Atariwini, has come under criticism for his continued involvement in political activities in the Kusaug region despite the region’s concerns over bias and unfavorable policies from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The Kusaug leadership, reflecting the sentiments of its people, previously called for a halt on all NPP campaign activities across the six districts in the region. This decision is a response to the perceived bias and negligence shown toward the region by the current administration. However, Mr. Atariwini’s actions are seen by many as placing his personal political ambitions above the interests of his community, his family, and his heritage.
In Kusaug, the principle of loyalty to family, community, and our customs is not just a cultural norm but a binding expectation. Our traditions and the authority of Zugraan, our chief, are paramount. For those who deviate from these collective decisions, the path is fraught with not only social but spiritual consequences. The Kusaug people take pride in unity and respect for leadership, both of which are critical to maintaining peace and progress in our community.
It is concerning for many of us when a son of Kusaug, especially one holding a position of influence, chooses to align more with political interests than with the well-being and unity of his own people. Such choices come with consequences that extend beyond individual careers and reputations. To defy the authority of our chief and the collective decisions of the community is a serious matter, inviting the displeasure of not only the people but also our traditional deities.
As a proud member of the NPP, I recognize the importance of political loyalty. However, there is no allegiance higher than the one we owe to our heritage, our family, and our community. In times like these, it is crucial to stand for the principles and cultural values that define Kusaug, beyond party affiliations. When faced with a choice between personal gain and the well-being of the Kusaug people, our commitment must remain to the latter.
This situation serves as a lesson and a “scapegoat” reminder for the youth of Kusaug and all members of our community. Loyalty to our traditions, customs, and collective decisions is non-negotiable. It is this very loyalty that has maintained the strength and unity of Kusaug for generations.
To those who continue to place political ambitions above their commitment to Kusaug, take heed. The community’s expectations are clear: honor our values, respect the voice of our leaders, and let the unity and welfare of the Kusaug people come first. In doing so, we uphold the legacy of our ancestors and secure a future that remains true to our identity and pride as Kusaug people.
Let this serve as a reminder to all sons and daughters of Kusaug. It is our duty to protect and uplift our heritage, for only by honoring our identity can we truly move forward together as one.
