Former President John Mahama has criticized President Akufo-Addo for what he calls self-glorification after he presented a monument of himself in the Western Region.
He believes President Akufo-Addo should be humble and allow people to congratulate him for his accomplishments rather than seeking personal credit.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer's words came after President Akufo-Addo dedicated a monument of himself at the entrance to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi on Wednesday, November 6, as part of his one-day "thank you" trip to the Western Region.
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Regional Minister, stated that the monument is meant to commemorate the development projects the President has supervised while in office.

However, in reaction to the announcement, Mr. Mahama emphasized that leaders should prioritize serving the people before seeking personal recognition.
"He just visited Takoradi and unveiled a statue of himself. "How is this possible?" Mr Mahama said.
Every president must possess humility. People should be the ones who praise and respect you. You are not meant to make your own statue, reveal it, and then ask the audience to applaud you."
Additionally, the former president chastised President Akufo-Addo for accepting honorary degrees while carrying out his presidential duties.
"You go to every university across the country and ask them to give you a doctorate while you are still a sitting president," implying that he should have waited until his tenure was up to seek recognition.
"He ought to have even waited until the end of his term so that people could look at your work and say, 'You did very well, and we want to honor you,'" Mr. Mahama stated.
However, he has snatched the hands of every university in the nation and had them grant him a PhD," the NDC flagbearer said.
