A Bundesliga star who is being touted as the heir to Mohamed Salah's throne has already terrified Vincent Kompany with his quality.
Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush has caused quite the stir this season with his unbelievable agility and clinical finishing skills. With Salah's contract at Liverpool set to expire next summer, the 25-year-old is being tipped to replace him.He has already made more goal contributions this term than Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, and he even has more than Salah. Marmoush also left Kompany shocked when he netted two goals and provided an assist in a 3-3 draw with Bayern Munich last month.
The Egyptian also brought the house down with a sumptuous free-kick in his side's narrow 1-0 victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League. However, Kompany's awe-inspiring testimony about the ex-Wolfsburg forward may be the biggest praise of all.
After Marmoush impressed against Bayern, Kompany said: “Marmoush is a player who’s only going to get better with time. What he did for [Hugo] Ekitike’s goal is not normal.
“To push past Upa [Dayot Upamecano] with strength, no one did that before for the whole season. And then to make the right decision at the end, the quality in his strike, and the speed. Sometimes he looks quite relaxed, then when he gets going, he’s really fast.”
Marmoush currently has 13 goals and nine assists in 15 appearances in all competitions. Only Harry Kane has registered more goal contributions than the forward in the Bundesliga.
Marmoush has already been linked with a move to Liverpool. With Salah's contract set to expire in seven months, Liverpool have been linked with many wide forwards.
The Egyptian international is the latest attacker to be touted with a move to the Merseysiders. Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche recently released a statement, suggesting the 2022 Europa League winners are determined to hang onto their star man.
He said: “Marmoush has matured greatly and has become the best player in the German League this season so far after his distinguished start with the Frankfurt team. Frankfurt wants Marmoush to continue during the coming period at the request of the coach. But this is not the right time to talk about this because the season is still long, and in the end it is the player’s desire – it will decide everything.”
