A serial killer is a person who has murdered at least two people on different occasions in separate times. A " serial murder" does not follow any legal rules, and such crimes committed have usually been tackled by the media and public consciousness- especially in cases where there are many victims or the murders are committed in a horrendous style. Today, we bring you the list of some of the most grisly serial killers the world has ever encountered;
I. Jeffrey Dahmer
At eighteen (18) years old in 1978, Jeff started killing and was not apprehended until 1991, when a would- be victim escaped and led the police back to Dahmer' s Milwaukee, Wisconsin home. It was there that some of the details of his life of killing were witnessed via photos of mutilated bodies and body parts scattered across the house.
The killer even had a container of acid which he used to dispose of victims. Jeffrey Dahmer' s killed seventeen (17) people (mostly young men) and served time in prison on two counts- with the first being for molestation and the second for murder. Jeffrey was killed by a fellow inmate in 1994while he was still serving his time.
II. Jack The Ripper
This killer was named " Jack The Ripper" because no one knew who was behind such horrific acts. The killer first appeared in London' s Whitechapel district in 1888 and killed five women, who were all prostitutes and mutilated their corpses.
The police at that time labelled the killer as a surgeon, butcher, or someone skilled in the use of a scalpel.
Jack The Ripper ridiculed the community and the police by sending letters describing his crimes. Even though many suspects have been named and persecuted over the years, the has never been identified.
III. H. H. Holmes
Of Chicago' s share of serial killers, none was more terrifying than the pharmacist who turned a hotel into a torture fortress. Holmes moved to Chicago ahead of the 1893 world' s fair and began outlining a three- story hotel with all kinds of harmful contraptions, including gas lines, secret passages and trapdoors, dead end hallways, chutes to the basement, soundproofed padding, and torture devices strewn throughout the maze.
He knocked his victims out with the gas before the worst of his torturing came next, usually on his surgical tables. He then burned the bodies in the building' s furnace and sold the skeletons to medical schools and ran life insurance scams. He killed more than thirty (30) victims and was turned in by a fellow scammer after he failed to follow an agreement they had had. Holmes was hanged in 1896.
IV. Pedro Lopez
Pedro Lopez is one of the worlds most prolific serial killers and might still be out there. He is linked to more than three hundred (300) murders in Columbia, Ecuador and Peru. One third of his victims were his tribal women and he was arrested in 1980, after police found the graves of more than fifty (50) preteens.
He was later convicted of murdering a hundred and ten (110) girls in Ecuador and confessed to two hundred and forty (240) more murders in Columbia and Peru. Nicknamed the " Monster of the Andes" , Lopez didn' t even spend twenty years in jail and was released in 1998 for good behavior and for more than twenty years now, his location has remained unknown.
V. Ted Bundy
Ted was a killer who loved the attention his murders clocked in and many people in the U. S. were more than happy to give him that attention. His hunting grounds was the Western side of the United States and with the unknown number of his victims, Ted preferred college- age women from Washington DC and Oregon all the way to Utah and Colorado and was convicted of kidnapping but he escaped custody, moved to Florida and killed multiple times more.
Ted Bundy was finally arrested and it' s aftermath got the attention of the whole United States, as he acted as his own lawyer during what is believed to have been the first televised murder trial, welcome interviews and the fans he had created. He was executed in 1989 in an electric chair.
Below is a documentary covering some of the above mentioned killers and many more others:
