No New Recruits at Ghana’s US Embassy – Foreign Minister Clarifies as Visa Services Resume

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has addressed recent concerns regarding staffing at the U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana. In a statement issued on May 30, 2025, the Ministry clarified that there have been no new recruitments at the Embassy. This clarification comes amidst the resumption of visa services, which had been temporarily disrupted due to a backlog and system transition.

The U.S. Embassy in Accra had previously announced a transition to a new visa services provider, effective August 26, 2024. This change was part of a broader update to visa services being rolled out at U.S. embassies worldwide. During the transition period, from August 16 to August 26, 2024, applicants were unable to make new visa appointments, cancel or reschedule existing appointments, or access customer service. However, all existing non-immigrant visa interview appointments remained valid under the new system. Applicants were required to create new accounts on the updated platform to access services such as updating delivery preferences, reviewing account information, and submitting requests.

The Ministry's clarification aims to address public concerns about the Embassy's staffing and the resumption of visa services. While the Embassy has not announced any new recruitments, it continues to process visa applications and manage the increased demand for U.S. visas in Ghana. Applicants are encouraged to utilize the updated visa services platform for their application needs.

The minister emphasized that the resumption of visa services is a positive development for Ghanaians seeking to travel to the US. However, he reiterated that the embassy's hiring practices are guided by US government policies, and there are no plans to recruit new staff at this time.

The US Embassy in Ghana had previously suspended visa services due to various reasons, causing inconvenience to many applicants. The resumption of services has brought relief to those awaiting visas for travel, business, or education.

Ghanaian citizens and businesses can now access various visa services, including non-immigrant visas for tourism, business, or education, and immigrant visas for family sponsorship or employment opportunities. The US Embassy encourages applicants to follow the official application procedures and requirements.

The clarification on staffing provides insight into the embassy's operational plans, reassuring the public about the continuity of essential services.
