Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed his anticipation for an exciting match as his side prepares to face Marumo Gallants in the semifinals of the Carling Knockout Cup at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m. (CAT, GMT+2). The clash promises to be an intriguing encounter, with both teams bringing different strengths to the table.

Marumo Gallants secured their place in the semifinals with a narrow 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC on November 3, 2024. In contrast, Sundowns delivered a dominant 4-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in their quarterfinal match at the FNB Stadium, demonstrating their impressive form. Sundowns had already gotten the better of Gallants earlier this season with a comprehensive 4-1 win in the Betway Premiership back in September, setting them up as favorites going into this clash.

Mngqithi is fully aware of the threat posed by Gallants and their coach, Dan Malesela. Mngqithi acknowledged Malesela’s style of play, recognizing that while Gallants play attractive football, they sometimes struggle to convert their style into goals. "I have always thought he is one of the best coaches, but I have also felt in the past that he’s not very incisive, and he does not play to kill," Mngqithi said. However, he praised Malesela for developing players and evolving his tactical approach, which has led to significant improvements for Gallants.

On the other hand, Malesela is confident heading into the match and emphasized that while his team respects Sundowns, they must focus on their own game. "We are very confident. The one big issue is trying to remove fear," Malesela stated, suggesting that his team would not be overawed by Sundowns’ superior stature.

Sundowns will be looking to their rising star, Arthur Sales, to continue his impressive form. After his excellent performance against Polokwane City, Sales could be a key figure in the attack. Gallants will rely on the experience of Siyabulela Shai, a former Sundowns player, who was instrumental in their quarterfinal victory over Stellenbosch.

With both teams in good form, this semifinal promises to be an exciting and competitive fixture, and fans can expect an enthralling display of football on Sunday.
