After a poor start to the Ghana Premier League season, Dreams Football Club has finally recorded their first victory, defeating Medeama Sporting Club 1-0 at the Tuba Astro Turf. The all important moment came in the 71st minute when captain Joseph Esso calmly converted a penalty into the goal of Medeama SC.
Despite the win they still stay 18th with 8 points.
The spot-kick was awarded after a Dreams FC player was fouled by Medeama's Diawusie Taylor, who mistimed his challenge. Esso, known for his calmness under pressure, stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake, slotting the ball past the Medeama goalkeeper.
This hard-fought win comes as a massive relief for Dreams FC, who had endured a winless streak spanning 10 games which came with losses and some important draw games both home and away.
Coach Abdul Karim Zito's half time team talk seemed to have paid off, as his side played well in the second half. The home team kept on giving their all until a chance came through for them from the spot kick.
Medeama SC, on the other hand, will rue their missed chances and Taylor's costly error. The visitors had moments of brilliance, particularly in the first half, but failed to capitalize on their attacking forays.
After a long wait the Tuba Astro Turf, would now boast of a home win and a goal from the home team as they lost their first game to Nations football club by a goal to nil.
Some Post-match reactions
Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito praised his team's perseverance: "We've worked tirelessly to address our shortcomings, and it's satisfying to see the players' efforts pay off. This win will boost our confidence and propel us forward."
Captain Joseph Esso dedicated the win to the fans: "We're thrilled to have finally given our supporters something to celebrate. We'll build on this momentum and strive to climb the league table."
Can Dreams FC's win be a turning point in their season as they Serge forward with renewed momentum, they'll aim to string together a series of positive results and climb the Ghana Premier League standings because their current spot is not good to say for a club that has been in the semis of the CAF Confederation canup just a season ago.
